Dive into the depths of music! When the waves of the sea and love meet, the result is a sound experience full of romance and passion. Maestro Marco Armiliato and mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina embark on a moving journey.
Together, Marco Armiliato and Aigul Akhmetshina explore both mirror-smooth and turbulent oceans and the passionately agitated spray of human souls. The shivering romance of Richard Wagner's Dutchman Overture is followed by two great vocal works: Edward Elgar creates lyrical atmospheric images of various poets, while Ernest Chausson tells a love story. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's overture Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt (Calm Sea and Happy Voyage) is just right as a finale: in the composition based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's poem, a safe harbour is reached after a frightening calm.
Mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina has won international acclaim, particularly as ‘Carmen’, and made her debut at the Salzburg Festival, the New York Met and the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. Future engagements will take her to the Vienna State Opera and the Zurich Opera House, among others. Maestro Marco Armiliato is one of the most important opera conductors of our time. He is a regular guest on stages around the world, including the Met, the Bavarian State Opera and the Royal Opera House.
