From Finland's mythical sagas to the majestic soundscape of Great Britain: Jean Sibelius' rarely performed Lemminkäinen Sagas and Edward Elgar's powerful First Symphony are the focus of this multi-faceted programme conducted by Matthew Halls.
In the manner of a symphony in the style of Franz Liszt and Richard Strauss, Sibelius tells the story of the Finnish legendary hero Lemminkäinen from the Kalevala epic. The legend describes a character who draws new strength from grief. This tale is accompanied by Edward Elgar's great symphony, which is considered a masterpiece of British music and captures the mood of the Edwardian age. The young violinist Daniel Lozakovich makes his Tonkünstler debut with Max Bruch's popular Violin Concerto in G minor.
Daniel Lozakovich, born in Stockholm in 2001, is one of the outstanding violinists of his generation. He made his debut as a soloist at the age of nine and celebrated his international breakthrough in 2016. Lozakovich works with renowned orchestras and has released several award-winning albums. British conductor Matthew Halls is known for his lively and versatile interpretation of works from all eras. As Artistic Director of the Oregon Bach Festival and conductor of leading orchestras, he has made a name for himself internationally.
