Jun Märkl takes us on a musical adventure full of philosophical depth, virtuoso dialogue and tongue-in-cheek classicism.
With the monumental C major fanfare from Richard Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra, which also became famous in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, we experience a musical mixture of Gregorian chant, natural sounds and waltzes. Jun Märkl and the Tonkünstler portray Richard Strauss, where the grandiose tone poem meets the Burleske, a highly virtuosic work with dialogues between orchestra and piano – played by the dynamic pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk. Strauss also shows his humorous side with the Dance Suite after François Couperin.
The Ukrainian-Australian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk is internationally renowned for his poetic interpretations. As well as performing with renowned orchestras around the world, he is an inspiring soloist in the most important concert halls and at festivals. Jun Märkl is a sought-after interpreter of the core German repertoire and the French Impressionists and currently conducts the Taiwan National Symphony Orchestra, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and, as chief conductor, the Residentie Orkest Den Haag.
