How does nature sound in music, how do the feelings it awakens in us sound? Chief conductor Fabien Gabel explores this question with the Tonkünstler-Orchester – and has chosen three of the most beautiful examples.
As a ‘memory of country life’ with a murmuring brook, birdsong and dancing country folk, Ludwig van Beethoven's Sixth was inspired by his stays in Nussdorf and Grinzing. Im Sommerwind is not far away - a late-romantic, enchanting nature piece by Anton Webern. Subtle connections lead to Threadsuns, a work for viola and orchestra by South Korean composer Donghoon Shin. Violist Amihai Grosz creates this subtle lament, the title of which refers to a well-known poem by Paul Celan.
Amihai Grosz began his career as a founding member of the Jerusalem Quartet and is now principal violist of the Berliner Philharmoniker and an internationally sought-after guest of various orchestras. From summer 2025, Fabien Gabel will be Chief Conductor of the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich. The French conductor has worked with orchestras all over the world and is known for his precise and energetic style as well as his versatile programming.
