Description
“His music is a genre in itself“, is how Marcos Morau describes the work of Ennio Morricone. The Spanish artist, crowned Choreographer of the Year 2023 by the magazine tanz, returns to the Festspielhaus with a programme set to Italian maestro of film music. Famous for the surreal visual language of his choreography, Morau has a special interest in the points where art forms meet – from dance to film and music – generating playful imaginary worlds and poetic landscapes. In this night with Morricone, Morau and the dancers of the Italian company CCN/Aterballetto and the Tonkunstler Orchestra under conductor Maurizio Billi pay homage to Morricone’s work that goes way beyond the soundtracks for “spaghetti Westerns“. At the same time, Morau uses the perspective of a new generation to make Morricone’s oeuvre his own, creating an entirely personal narrative world: “This music speaks for itself, but at the same time it is also associated with characters, stories and emotions from the films. (…) I’m trying to do the same things: I create new images, new characters, new landscapes, using Morricone’s wonderful, melancholy music.“
In Italian with German surtitles.
